Halloween Fun Trivia!

Halloween will be on Thursday, October 31st and here is some fun trivia to help you get into the spirit:

·         The first citywide celebration of Halloween in the US was in Anoka, Minnesota in 1921.

·         Orange and black are Halloween colors. Orange is associated with the Fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death.

·         Over 93% of children under the age of 12 will go out trick-or-treating.

·         We will spend more than $1.5 billion on costumes and over $2 billion on candy!

·         Chocolate candy bars are the most popular candy and Snickers bars rank #1.

·         86% of Americans decorate their homes for Halloween.

·         Jack o’ Lanterns originated in Ireland where they placed candy in hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the Samhain holiday.

·         Tootsie Rolls were the first wrapped penny candy in the US.

·         90% of parents admit to sneaking  candy from their kids!

·         Over 28 million Halloween cards are sent each year.

·         Some believe that if you see a spider on Halloween, it is the spirit of a loved one watching over you.

·         The movie “Halloween” was made on a very limited budget and was produced in only 21 days!

·         Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.

·         Some say that bobbing for apples originated from the Roman harvest festival that honors Pomona, the goddess of fruit trees.

·         About 50% of adults dress up for Halloween.
