Rodents Find Soy-Based Wiring In Some Cars Tasty!

Some car and truck owners are now wondering if the “push to go green” has gone too far. Is the new soy-based wiring insulation too friendly to animals?

A car owner recently couldn’t figure out why her car wouldn’t start. Her husband opened the hood, looked inside and saw parts of the car’s wiring harness laying on the ground. The wiring harness had been completely chewed into by rodents!

During the last decade, many car manufacturers have started using soy-based wire insulation. The reason they did this was so that the wire wouldn’t last forever in landfills.

This new wiring may be great for the environment but the mice, rats, squirrels and rabbits also think it is a terrific idea.

What Can You Do To Help Prevent This Problem?

Honda dealers are now selling rolls of anti-rodent tape. This tape contains   capsaicin and can be used on any brand of car (Capsaicin is the active component of hot chili peppers so don’t rub your eyes after installing this tape!).

Are you having a problem with rodents chewing up your car’s wiring? Termite Terry suggest that you may have to start parking your car in the garage. Also, you’ll want to make sure your garage is rodent proofed so that the rodents can’t get in.
