10 Tips For A Safe Halloween

Halloween is so much fun for kids. They love putting on costumes, the parties, and going trick-or-treating. Here are 10 tips to help keep your children safe on Halloween:

  1. Children should wear bright costumes that are made of flame-retardant material.
  2. Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft, and flexible.
  3. Young children should be accompanied by an adult or an older sibling.
  4. If older children are trick-or-treating without supervision, they should walk in groups, and have a set time to return home.
  5. Adults and children should put down their smart phones and watch where they are going. This is especially important when crossing streets.
  6. Have your kids look both ways when crossing streets. They should always use crosswalks, and they should never dart out into the street, or cross between parked cars.
  7. Glow sticks or flashlights will help your children see and will be seen by the drivers of cars.
  8. Your children should never enter the homes of people they don’t know.
  9. Throw out any treats that look like they have been tampered with, or that have been unwrapped.
  10. Never let your children eat homemade treats, unless you know the person who made them.

Halloween is not just for kids, as more and more adults are dressing up in costumes and going out to parties. That’s okay! But, if you’ve been partying and had too much to drink, please call someone to give you a safe ride home.
