Ladies At Beauty Salon Are Attacked By A Swarm Of Bees!

It was just another typical, beautiful, sunny day in Fountain Valley when these ladies decided to go to their local beauty salon to have their hair and nails done. Little did they know that they were about to be attacked by a swarm of bees.

Can you imagine how these ladies must have felt when they were sitting in the chairs, all relaxed, only to have bees start swarming around their heads and landing on their bodies? Can you imagine the screams these ladies must have let out as they were being stung? Oh my! Fortunately, the owner of the salon called Termite Terry Pest Control for help. David Salamin, Termite Terry’s pest control technician, went to the salon and discovered that there was a huge bee hive, located above the ceiling tiles, over the restroom.

Apparently, someone working on the building had left an open hole in the exterior wall and that hole was how the bees were able to get in and out of the building. Sometime later, these workers discovered that the bees were going in and out of the building through this hole and that’s when they decided to patch up the hole. Unfortunately, when they patched the hole, it left thousand of bees trapped inside the building and their only way to escape was to go through the inside of the beauty salon.

David got to the salon at 7am, that morning, because he knew that the bees would all still be asleep, especially because the lights in the salon were off and that it would be fairly dark in there. He removed the ceiling tiles and climbed up on top of the restroom. The hive measured about two feet tall, eighteen inches wide and about ten inches thick. There were thousands of bees in the hive and David didn’t want to disturb them because he knew that if they all took off and started flying around the salon, the salon might have to remain closed for days. That is why David decided to cover the entire hive with plastic sheeting. Once the bees were completely trapped inside the plastic, he started applying a pyrethrum spray. Pyrethrums are made from chrysanthemum flowers, are very low in toxicity to man and are very low in odor. Pyrethrums are very effective in controlling bees. In only a matter of minutes after the product was applied, the bees were dead. David cleaned up the hive area and estimates that the hive must have weighed at least 20 or twenty five pounds. The best news was that the beauty salon was able to open at their regularly scheduled time of 9am.

Termite Terry strongly recommends that anytime you have a bee hive like this inside of a structure, you had better hire someone that has experience and knows how to handle the problem. He recalls the story of a restaurant owner that hired a “big named company” to treat a bee infestation located inside the restaurant’s ceiling area. That company’s technician did not handle the situation correctly and just started blasting the bee hive with some spray that really annoyed the bees. Within no time at all, the entire restaurant had bees flying everywhere. The restaurant had to remain closed for business – Two Days! Can you imagine how much money the restaurant lost during that weekend??
