1. Remove vegetation that touches the building – Many pests invade from the outside by way of vegetation that touches a building. Make sure all tree branches, shrubs, and plants are trimmed back and that ample barrier space exists between vegetation and buildings.

5. Continually monitor outside areas for fire ant mounds – If you see one, do not disturb or attempt to treat the mound. Jeannifer adds these words… O.K., I admit! When I first started here, I didn’t think too much about Pest Control Technicians. They get rid of Pests, Right? I know that I wouldn’t want to do Pest Control…It takes a special kind of person to be in this type of business. I know NOW, that it is TRUE!!! I would like to share with you a situation that helped me understand what these technicians endure on a daily basis. Our office received a call about BEES, nothing out of the ordinary. I had our “Pest Control Man” on the job the same day. Termite Terry went along because it was a home that was going to be fumigated for termites and some tree trimming was needed prior to fumigation. They were gone for quite some time. I didn’t think too much about it until they got back to the office. When Terry walked in; I asked him why his hair was in disarray. Then I looked closer and realized his face was completely swollen, puffy and really red. Sean was still in his truck trying to sooth his wounds and dusting himself off. I then saw stray bees flying out of the truck. That is when suddenly the light bulb in my head set off – They were stung by these bees!!! That is when I came to the conclusion that Pest Control is not “A Walk in the Park”.
Terry was in sure pain as he was stung everywhere from head to toe. In fact he didn’t even look like himself. He had to take his watch off because his arms were puffy from the stingers. I saw the anguish in his eyes, but “Termite” Terry doesn’t give in to these pests. He took it like a REAL MAN and continued about his day without a word of discomfort or despair.
Sean, who was wearing the bee suit, was attacked by these angry bees on the ankles of his feet. The Bees were trying to get into his shoe. Yup, they got in too. His feet swelled up, he was walking like an old man. They stung his shoes and the stingers were left inside the leather of the outer part of the shoes. I could tell these guys were not in the mood to discuss the situation.
Later I found out that these bees were the well known “Killer Bees” that have come to Orange County. I must say, that I give it up to these guys. They continued throughout the day like nothing. The office staff and I were in astonishment. We really didn’t know what to say. I never knew that Pest Control was this dangerous. They are amazing.
