A homeowner recently called a pest control company because they were seeing something that looked like maggots inside their home.
After performing an inspection, the pest control technician determined the pests were actually meal worms. Since they were coming out of a wall, he asked for permission to cut a small hole in the drywall so he could find out why they were in there. Once the hole was opened up, he found the answer because a pile of acorns came pouring out of the wall.
The tech decided to go and inspect the outside of the house. There, he could see where a woodpecker had completely destroyed the home’s exterior wall. Looking further, he found a hole next to the chimney, where the woodpecker was stashing the acorns inside the wall.
The acorns were piled up from the first floor and all the way up into the second-story attic. More holes had to be cut into the wall, and it took three techs a full day to remove the 700 pounds of acorns.
Now, I know a lot of you think that woodpeckers are cute. But, if you ever hear “Woody” pecking at the side of your home, you might want to do something about it before your home “goes nuts”.
