Pulled a large bee hive
Worshipers at a mosque were attacked by a swarm of up to 20,000 killer bees. More than 20 people were stung and one man had to be hospitalized.
Officials had to close down the road outside of the mosque and nearby residents were warned to stay inside their homes for safety. Firefighters rushed to the scene and sprayed the bees with foam to help control them. Several hours later, a beekeeper arrived to remove the hive.
The bees had formed a hive under the eaves of the mosque. One of the mosque workers stated that a man had already been scheduled to remove the hive on the following day. Unfortunately, the bees attacked earlier than expected.
It is believed that the bees were disturbed by the mosque’s speakers, which were located near the hive.
One of the witnesses said, “I don’t know, it was crazy how everyone was running everywhere.” Miming swatting at bees around his head, he continued: “They were making some movements like that . . . some people would even fall in the grass over there and then they’d get up and start running. I can’t believe they had the whole street blocked off for bees.”
More than 20 people complained of getting stung multiple times by the killer bees. Most were treated at the scene and released. There is no immediate word on the condition of the man who was taken to the hospital.
