A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of an actress and her husband, against a major cruise line. The couple was trapped in a stateroom that was infested with bedbugs during a recent cruise from Los Angeles to Mexico.
“Imagine yourself on a cruise at sea with your stateroom infested with bed bugs. There was nowhere to go. We were trapped. We felt helpless. There were bedbugs coming out of the pillows and the mattress, we felt betrayed,” said the actress.
The couple recorded a video that showed blood on the pillows while bedbugs crawled under the mattress. The bedbugs attacked the actress and her husband while they slept. The actress was later admitted into a hospital because the bites were so bad. Her spouse remains traumatized by the experience.
The lawyer stated that this couple is suffering emotionally as they continue to relive the experience of waking up in the middle of the night, imagining that the bedbugs are sucking blood from their bodies.
According to the lawsuit, they allege that the cruise ship knew or should have known of the bedbug infestation, and they simply failed to protect the passengers from physical and emotional harm. They also allege that the cruise ship’s policies and procedures were inadequate. Their attorney said, “They simply were negligent in providing safe premises.”
The actress said, “This was a horrific experience, and no one should ever go through such pain and trauma. This ordeal has prompted us to be advocates and bring awareness to people who have been exposed to bedbugs.”
